Augsburg is a city in the south-west of Bavaria, Germany. For over 500 years Augsburg had its own government, and was a Free Imperial City. Augsburg is the third-largest city in Bavaria, and second oldest in the whole Germany. It has more than 2000 years of rich history and was founded by the Emperor Augustus in 8 B.C.
The father of the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Leopold Mozart, was born in Augsburg in 1719. There are few buildings in the city with the memorial plaques recalling the Mozart family.
The residents of the city can enjoy their own holiday every year on the August 8th, the Augsburger Hohes Friedensfest. Augsburg is the only city in Germany with its own holiday. Due to this fact the residents of Augsburg have one additional holiday than any other citizen of Germany.
